Be Humble!

What do you have that you did not receive? And if you received it, why do you boast as if it were not a gift?  1 Corinthians 4:7

I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in Me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from Me you can do nothing.  John 15:5

He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble His way.  Psalm 25:9

My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad.  Psalm 34:2

When pride comes, then comes disgrace; but wisdom is with the humble.  Proverbs 11:2

Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  Matthew 18:4

All who exalt themselves will be humbled, and all who humble themselves will be exalted.  Matthew 23:12

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you.  James 4:10

A friend told me today that he is more humble than I am.   Now at the time he said that, I was being silly and joking around, and I know he was joking.  But I also know that I can be proud and cocky sometimes, and it made me stop and think.  Although I know what the word “humble” means, I decided to look it up in the dictionary anyway and get its official meaning.   According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “humble” means: 1) not proud or haughty, 2) not pretentious: unassuming, and 3) insignificant.

I also decided to look up the word “humble” in the Bible; the Scriptures above are just a few of the many listings.  I also added some other related Scriptures.

As a Christian, being humble has an even added significance.  Not only are you “not proud or haughty”, but you know that everything you have is a gift from God.  EVERYTHING.   You also realize that “apart from God you can do nothing”.

So always remember to thank God for your many blessings!!!  And ask God to keep you humble….especially on those days when you are feeling proud or cocky.

Dear God,

Thank You for Your many blessings!!!  Help me to always be humble before You!!!  Help me to always remember that EVERYTHING is a gift from You and that apart from You I can do nothing!!!  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen
